Here is the first of many, a post very simply sharing a few favorite things from this week: Videos I’ve watched, articles read, songs and podcasts listened to. Sharing things I might be coveting, research I might be doing. These posts will be loggs of my interests and collections of things that inspire me.

My words fill the gaps between links, but nothing else is my own. Enjoy!

nytimes oP-dOCs

This documentary is really moving. I love the split screen format pairing each interview with korean subtitles, and found the stories told unlike any I had heard before. Each participant tells of their experience with adoption, and how they have carried it with them through life.

La Vagabond

aLWAYS A FAVORITE, i HAVE BEEN WATCHING THESE TWO SAIL AROUND THE WORLD SINCE THEY STARTED MAKING VIDEOS years ago. they are heading up the east cost of America sometime soon and I am really looking forward to their videos of that sail.

I sail a little sunfish in northern michigan most summers, but an ocean crossing is something I have my eyes on. I have been checking out some volunteer crewing sites to try and find a spot on an atlantic crossing for this november.

Now that would be an awesome way to enter into my 26th year.

SAlomon tv

In my last two years of college I got really into running, MAYBE EVEN CRAZY ABOUT IT. i WOULD RUN AROUN 5 MILES 6 DAYS A WEEK AND LOVED IT. nEVER HAD i FELT SO PROUD OF MY BODY, NEVER SO STRONG OR SO FIT.

Then I moved to brooklyn, NY and didn’t enjoy running in the city. i FELL OUT OF MY RUNNING RHYTHM.

LATELY i HAVE BEEN CRAVING THE FEELINGS OF STRENGTH AND ACCOMPLISHMENT THAT ACCOMPANY RUNNING. i HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET BACK INTO TRAINING WITH SOME LOFTY GOALS IN MIND for the next couple years. oNCE BACK IN THE STATES i THINK i WOULD LIKE TO GO FOR A MARATHON, BUT NOT IN A CITY. oN TRAIL. tHAT IS THE FRIST STEP, THEN MAYBE SOME ULTRA RUNS. i FEEL DRAWN, INSPIRED AND INTERESTED TO EXPERIENCE THAT TYPE OF ENDURANCE.

tO STAY INSPIRED i HAVE been watched sALOMON TV’s beautiful documentaries about runners.

bread, butter & honey

i’VE BEEN BAKING A LOT OF BREAD. so MUCH SO THAT i HAVE BECOME A BREAD-SNOB. i ONLY EAT IT STRAIGHT OUT OF THE OVEN, FRESH AND WARM. oNE OF MY BEST FRIENDS WAS VISIT FOR THE LAST TWO WEEKS AND HE WENT A LITTLE NUTTY FOR MY BREAD. hE WENT THROUGH AT LEAST A LOAF A DAY, GAINING SEVERAL KILOS DURING HIS STAY. hE INTRODUCED ME TO HONEY ON TOAST, HERE IS HOW YOU DO IT: cut a slice of just-baked-bread still warm so that your butter melts effortlessly, then take a generous glob of foggy honey (the good stuff, not that clear crap) and apply it to bread. Enjoy.

“I'm seeing penguins die. This year, it was a really tragic year to go down and witness it. Normally, when you go down to Antarctica in February at the end of the season, there's still a lot of snow on the ground. And the penguins are, you know, are just getting ready to go to sea.

But what we witnessed this year was this is the most rainfall they've had. And all the snow was gone in these places which are normally covered in snow. And the penguins, when they're in their very vulnerable downy phase, they've got this fluffy down that keeps them warm, and that's there until they get their adult feathers which allow them to repel water and go to sea.

And at that phase, they can't get wet but snow can be - is very dry. It's a safe environment for them. But when they get wet and it rains, you start to see a lot of dead penguins. And another thing that we have to address in Antarctica with penguins is, you know, krill has become the new latest craze for humans. It's the new cool protein. It's the omega 3s that we like to eat. And to go down to Antarctica and see factory ships that are 800 feet long pulling out hundreds of millions of pounds of krill and shipping that off to market.” - nicklen

I am thinking about buying a car / van / camper / motorhome, some type of vehicle when I get back to the states, so I have been researching up a storm. Trying to find the perfect mode of transport that meets my criteria.
