Taylor In Norway

For two weeks my best friend of ten years, came to visit the island. He had been hiking the Kungsleden in Sweden when a knee injury cut his adventure short. After a series of serendipitous events he made it to Manshausen and it was awesome to share this epic place with him.

Taylor helped out around the island, spent his free time reading and eating bread by the loaf. The best days were when we got to go climbing!

cookies

During Taylor’s stay we had a few cinema-club nights. Cinema-club was established by my co-woerker and island chef, Tom, who live in a traditionally red cabin slightly tuck away from the main collection of buildings on the island. He had set up a white sheet and projector in his cabin and would invite us over to “the little red cabin” for a movie. He took his hosting duties seriously and always offered food and drink.

Often cinema-club started when I was still baking bread. Therefore I would often show up a little late, but with an offering of fresh bread, salted butter and honey. I had also gotten really into making cookies and cookies significantly elevate the cinema experience.

A few evenings Taylor and I had our own cinema-club and rewatched all our favorite climbing documentaries: Meru, Valley Uprising, and best of all, The Dawn Wall.

We also watched Free Solo and despite my overwhelming love for Jimmy Chin & how incredible, mind-blowing, unfathomable the accomplishment of Alex Honnold is, collectively we agree we are not fans of the doc.
